From Mom to Mompreneur in 5 Easy Steps

From Mom to Mompreneur in 5 Easy Steps

Being a mom is a full-time job, but many women have chosen to pursue their dream of owning a business and becoming a mompreneur. If you would like to do the same but are unsure of how to get started and balance your life, follow these hot tips!

Choose a Business

Luckily, there have never been more options for home businesses than there are today. Three popular options are selling homemade product on online marketplaces such as Shopify, freelancing, and dropshipping. Whatever you choose, it should be something that you are passionate about being successful in doing, according to Investopedia. This doesn't mean you have to be passionate about ghostwriting for other people if that's the route you choose to go. You should, though, be passionate about having a successful business. If you feel driven by purpose in your business, you are far more likely to succeed.

Decide Your Management Style

When it comes to time and child management, the right style can help stay on top of your workload. Being a mompreneur comes with unique challenges, most of which revolve around how you will balance working from home while also taking care of your children.

Establish a space that is strictly for your business so that you and your family both associate it with you working. Take advantage of times when kids are napping, at school, or engaging in other activities in which they don't require much direction or attention. Many kids are especially easy-going right after a nap or a meal, so take advantage of these times to get low-attention tasks for your business completed. Always work with high-quality equipment. A high-resolution monitor, powerful laptop, and noise-blocking headset can all keep you on task.

Establishing Your Business

Whether you will need a business license depends on where you are located and what you will be selling in your business. For some areas, if you are freelancing, you do not have to register as a business because you and your business are the same in the eyes of the law. You have the option to, but it is not a requirement. Check the regulations in your area before proceeding.

Get Online

Every business, regardless of what industry, needs to have a website in today's marketplace.

It's also important to have a social media presence so that you can reach customers where they are. At a minimum, you should create a Facebook business page. Depending on what you are selling, it might also be worthwhile to create an Instagram and Pinterest account for your business, as these allow shoppable links.

Branding

You’ll also want to create an attractive and recognizable logo that sets you apart from the competition, and a Brand Guideline.
Another tip: especially if you’re predominantly working online from your home, do what you can to keep your home as positive as possible. It’s easy to fall into negativity when you’re in one location for a while, so take breaks when you can, avoid self-criticism, and be mindful of your own wellness.

Embrace Mobile Marketing

Mobile marketing is specifically designed to meet customers on the mobile platform so the user experience is a positive one. Make sure your website its mobile user friendly

Being a mompreneur is hard work, but the payoff is worth it. Decide what your business will be and get established and online. Embrace the marketing that is most effective for this day and age and your business will thank you.
